Petition to sort out the scaffolding outside 112 High Street in Aylesbury

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned about the scaffolding outside 112 High Street in Aylesbury which has been blocking the pavement for many years.

We believe it is dangerous, particularly for people using mobility scooters and wheelchairs as well as those with prams and pushchairs. It's also an eyesore.

Removing the scaffolding safely is ultimately what’s needed. We recognise the difficulty in establishing viable development of the 112 High Street site. However, in the interim, we believe the scaffolding arrangement should be redesigned, so that the pavement outside is not completely blocked.

A redesign of the scaffold arrangement has the potential to be hugely beneficial to residents and High Street businesses. It could allow pedestrians to pass safely without needing to step into the road. It could be more aesthetically pleasing than the current scaffold arrangement.

We therefore call upon Buckinghamshire Council to:

  1. Procure a structural engineer to assess the site as soon as possible.

  2. Consider the potential merits of redesigning the scaffolding so pedestrians, including disabled people, can walk safely on the pavement.

  3. Engage with local residents and local business to find a workable solution.

  4. Work towards removing all scaffolding safely.

We believe that the safety of residents, particularly disabled residents, must be a top priority. We therefore request urgent action to sort out the scaffolding, which has been in place for far too long.
